| The cutting tool cuts at a relatively high speed, and the subsequent cutting and finishing processes involve very little material removal. Therefore, the combined time of three cuts is generally faster than a single cut in a fast wire EDM process. Electrical discharge machining (EDM) utilizes the instantaneous high temperature generated when an electric spark is applied between the electrode and the workpiece to erode the material layer by layer from the workpiece surface. EDM is suitable for machining high-hardness, conductive workpieces. CNC EDM forming machines are an example of EDM. |
